Tim Surprise of Arcadia Brewing will lead a discussion on malted barley accompanied by a sampling of several beers highlighting the varying flavor and color contributions from assorted malts. If you are kept awake at night wondering how it is possible that Guinness is actually one of the lightest bodied, lowest calorie beers available, please join us for this class. Maggie will demonstrate the mashing stage of the brewing process.

Deconstructing Hop at NYC Beer Week
Hops & The Boil
Monday, Sep 14 from 6:30 to 8:30pm

Brian O'Reilly of Sly Fox Brewery will introduce us to the wide world of hops, one varietal at a time. He'll be sampling a series of his experimental beers - the Sly Fox Hop Project - each brewed with a single hop variety. Maggie will demonstrate methods of hop additions during the boiling phase of the brewing process.

Deconstructing Yeast at NYC Beer Week
Yeast & Fermentation
Friday, Sep 18 from 6 to 7:30pm
$55 / $44 with Passport
Rob Tod of Allagash Brewing, famed crafters of Belgian style beers, will discuss the skill and finesse required of every brewer in what is arguably the most critical and difficult stage of the brewing process: Fermentation. Rob will sample a number of beers brewed with different yeasts in order to demonstrate the dramatic effects of this living organism on beer aroma and flavor. Maggie will demonstrate the beginning of fermentation and the bottling phase of the brewing process.
